  5. postmortem Oct 09, 2025, 05:25 PM UTC

    # **What happened** On October 3, between approximately 3:36 PM and 4:24 PM EDT, the Vimeo OTT web application was inaccessible. Branded apps and the APIs were unaffected during this time. # **What caused it** We were undertaking a scheduled maintenance to follow up on the OTT platform migration that occurred on October 1. During this maintenance, while we were adding database connection pools, we encountered a bug in the web application where a safety feature wasn’t behaving as expected. This bug caused all requests to the application to fail. # **How we responded** Our internal monitoring system brought the outage to our attention within minutes. We immediately began investigating. Once we identified the root cause, we turned off the affected feature, which resolved all errors. # **What we’re doing to prevent a recurrence** We’re removing the code related to the affected feature so that it doesn’t impact the web application moving forward. We’re also reviewing our standard practice for scheduled maintenance, including when they occur, to minimize the impact on OTT users.
