    # **What happened** Between approximately 6:00 PM EDT on October 5 and 3:40 AM EDT on October 6, some Vimeo OTT users experienced significant delays in receiving system emails related to subscription renewals, scheduled releases, and other account management tasks. Emails for subscription confirmations and password maintenance were unaffected. The same issue caused some Vimeo OTT users to experience degraded access to their purchased video content from approximately 11:21 PM EDT to 11:56 PM EDT on October 5. # **What caused it** An internal system responsible for sending emails became overloaded, which caused a backlog that affected related services and slowed some user actions on the Vimeo OTT platform. # **How we responded** We became aware of the incident through internal monitoring and began investigating immediately. We identified the lack of system resources as the cause and increased resources to the email process to remediate both sets of problems. # **What we’re doing to prevent a recurrence** We’re adding permanent baseline capacity to handle larger email spikes and investigating the feasibility of auto-scaling this process so that it can adapt to changing demands quickly. We’re also considering alternative ways of sending emails to alleviate the impact of long queues on the web application.
