The fix is holding. This issue is resolved. What happened: Overnight on Sunday, April 5, a routine database server upgrade was performed. A component of CMS4Schools which processes content updates was affected and silently failed. As a result, a backlog of updates accumulated until the issue was fixed this morning. Content updates that were sent during this period have now been published, and new content should appear quickly as normal. We are filling the gap in monitoring to detect this type of issue, and are implementing a more robust reconnection mechanism to prevent this problem from occurring in the future.

Our underlying provider for mass notifications (email, text, phone, and chat) is currently experiencing a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. This attack is leveraging a high volume of rotating IP addresses to generate excessive traffic against publicly accessible resources. We're in active communication with them as their engineering and security teams work to mitigate the impact.

As you may have heard, AWS is recovering from a high profile outage that started early this morning. AWS hosts much of the infrastructure that 4Schools applications are built on. We have been monitoring these effects closely and have found the direct impact to be very minor in our case. However, please be aware that many affected companies are still stabilizing their systems. As the recovery efforts cascade through infrastructure managed by 4schools, by partners, and by hosts whom you may have linked to in CMS4Schools, you may see occasional error messages. We will continue to monitor application performance and take any steps possible to mitigate outages.

This afternoon, we ran into a problem with a system responsible for queuing tasks so they can be accomplished in an orderly way. Tasks that normally take 1-2 seconds had to wait in line like they were going up Splash Mountain. Unfortunately, that meant that your beautifully crafted content updates had to wait, too. Today we installed a fix to help it work more smoothly. On our roadmap, we've got some fun (for us! really!) engineering in the works to scale up even more. Thanks for your patience today! Due to a network error, the automatic scheduled contact list syncs with certain configurations of Skyward are not operational. This may be preventing automated lunch balance or attendance messages from sending for some schools. No other functionality is affected. IEP4Schools had been unavailable due to an expired certificate. The cause of the expiration was traced back to some automation code which had been altered for troubleshooting, and not restored to normal use. At the same time, we discovered that some changes had been made by a monitoring/alerting service provider, which resulted in a failure to alert technical staff. The original outage has been corrected, and improvements are planned for certificate management, monitoring, and alerting.

The service we rely on for email delivery, Mailchimp, is down. Unfortunately, they are not acknowledging the problem on their status page. However, extensive testing by our team, peers in other industries, and some chatter on social media have convinced us that Mailchimp's transactional email service is the problem. We are looking into alternatives.

Our PDF generation service, which is responsible for creating PDFs to preview and print documents, is currently not working reliably. We are looking into a possible cause. In the meantime, printing or previewing documents may result in a timeout error.

The login service for Student Services is currently under heavy load, and is responding poorly. If you are already logged into Student Services, you should be able to use IEP4Schools without a problem. However, new logins will be delayed for a bit. We are currently bringing new capacity online to address this issue.
