- investigating Dec 16, 2019, 08:40 PM UTC
Slate experienced a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack earlier this afternoon that temporarily prevented access to some databases as a result of a substantial increase to network traffic. This incident was the result of a series of coordinated attacks against multiple institutions. The attack was mitigated and contained, and we are working with AWS, other vendors, and authorities to investigate this incident and mitigate future attacks. Further information will be shared as allowed.
- monitoring Dec 17, 2019, 03:03 PM UTC
We continue to monitor all systems and networks and have activated mitigations that are intended to minimize and eliminate any impact from further threat activity.
- resolved Dec 22, 2019, 05:32 PM UTC
We have completed a scale up of infrastructure at the network edge to help absorb any future attacks of similar size, and we have increased the sensitivity of the automatic mitigations that can stop an attack in progress. We have also added additional restrictions that activate if and when similar patterns of attack may occur. There have been no recurrences of this event pattern that have resulted in any production impact. We continue to monitor all systems and networks.
