AAPT has confirmed the issue has been identified and resolved, and services have stabilised. What happened: AAPT has advised that overnight their network experienced a sudden increase in the size of its routing table. In simple terms, a routing table is the map a carrier's network uses to work out where to send traffic across the internet, and it is shared between carriers using a protocol called BGP. When that map grew unexpectedly, it disrupted BGP routing within the AAPT core network, which flowed on to end customer services. This is what caused services to drop, flap, and in some cases remain offline during the incident window. This event occurred entirely within the AAPT carrier network, upstream of the services we deliver. All Hosted Network infrastructure operated normally throughout, with impact limited to services that traverse the AAPT network, including those delivered via TPG and VOCUS. Current status: Services should now be restored and stable. If you have any services that are still impacted or have not recovered cleanly, please raise a fault with our support team and we will investigate, as a small number of services can occasionally require manual intervention following an event of this nature. We will continue to monitor closely and will provide a further update if anything changes. Thank you for your patience while this was worked through.
