OUTAGE RESOLVED Between late evening on October 19 and the afternoon of October 20, AWS experienced a widespread outage affecting multiple services, which resulted in degraded performance and intermittent availability across several of our systems. ⸻ Root Cause (per AWS) The outage was caused by DNS issues with AWS DynamoDB, which disrupted several related services until full recovery by 3:01 PM PDT on October 20. ⸻ Impact to Rep Data Systems The outage affected portions of our infrastructure leading to: • Delays and errors in survey delivery and data collection through Research Desk • Delays and failures in API responses in Research Defender • Latency in background processes and queue-based events relying on Lambda and DynamoDB Our monitoring systems detected degraded performance during the affected window, and platform access returned to normal following AWS’s full recovery.
