Degraded performance of website due to high CPU usage at the database level

On Thursday, August 14, 2025, between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM NZST, our database experienced an unexpected CPU spike that **temporarily affected system performance**. We want to assure you that while we continue to monitor the situation, this incident will not continue to affect user experience. ### What Happened? Since Tuesday, August 12, we've been monitoring elevated database CPU usage. During this initial incident, we identified a root cause, but due to time constraints, we couldn't immediately apply a fix. To ensure system stability and provide immediate relief, we proactively **increased the database CPU count**. Based on our monitoring, which showed significant improvement, we were confident in reducing the CPU count back to its original level at 9:00 AM today, August 14. Unfortunately, at 10:00 AM, we observed a **second, related database CPU spike**. Our team quickly identified the new cause and immediately restored the additional CPU cores to stabilize performance. Please note that the fix for this second issue has not yet been implemented, but the increased core count is maintaining stability. ### What We're Doing The system is now operating normally with the increased CPU capacity. Our team is actively monitoring the database and will continue to investigate the underlying factors that led to this morning's spike. Our priority is to implement the permanent fix for the second issue and ensure long-term stability to prevent similar occurrences.
