We have tracked down the issue. We recently launched new Facebook ads and it caused Facebook to crawl our site from a variety of servers all at the same time. There are a variety of different engineering initiatives we have planned which would help protect us from this, but for now we will work more closely with marketing to be aware of these ad launches.
