Outage of some TLD Systems - Full Incident Report Incident Start: 2021-01-11 07:15 UTC Incident End: 2021-01-11 08:07 UTC Duration: 52 minutes Issue Summary Some TLD systems experienced outages and were not available during the incident. Root Cause An implementation of a new firewall policy at 2021-01-11 07:15 UTC caused issues with the DNS resolution of some of our TLD systems. Remediation and Prevention New firewall policies have been reverted at 2021-01-11 08:07 UTC. To avoid further issues caused by implementation of new firewall policies we have adjusted our internal procedures. Additionally, to harden our own infrastructure we will perform a maintenance on short notice on Wednesday 13 January, 2021 between 06:00 - 07:00 UTC where we will implement firewall updates. Detailed Description of Impact On Monday 11 January, 2021 from 07:15 to 08:07 UTC the connection of some of our TLD systems had DNS resolution issues causing connection issues to Registries, after a new firewall policy has been put in place. This new policy has been reverted to remediate these issues. Many of our TLD systems are working with persistent connections which have not been interrupted during this timeframe, and thus they were working continuously before, after and during the incident. However, some TLD systems could not connect to Registries during the incident and you might have received error messages for some TLDs.
