Our applications load balancer (Amazon AWS ALB) was not responding to DNS requests, causing our heartbeat monitor to erroneously mark some web-server endpoints as unavailable and redirect to the application maintenance page. We escalated the issue to our hosting provider (Aptible) who escalated the issue to Amazon. This caused an outage end user access from 9:11am to 9:54am PST (direct API access for partners was unaffected). We're following up with Aptible and AWS about long term remediation steps.
