Update timeline

  1. investigating Jul 30, 2021, 08:13 AM UTC

We are currently investigating this issue.

  2. monitoring Jul 30, 2021, 08:38 AM UTC

A fix has been implemented and we are monitoring the results.

  3. resolved Jul 30, 2021, 11:14 PM UTC

The root cause of this incident has been identified as a distributed denial-of-service attack spread across all 256 IP addresses within a /24 subnet. Our existing DDoS protection facilities work against single-IP attacks but are unable to detect and mitigate this style of subnet attack. In the coming days we will be working with our upstreams to determine how we can best mitigate this style of attack in the future.
