Update timeline

  1. investigating Dec 30, 2016, 05:52 PM UTC

Starting 15 minutes ago I've been seeing some slow performance with some brief 504 errors affecting sites on 'anchorhost4' (104.130.140.77). Working with WP Engine to resolve. Will update as I have more information.

  2. identified Dec 30, 2016, 06:06 PM UTC

Appears to be a large amount of unwanted traffic. A block has been put into effect to help reduce load.

  3. resolved Dec 30, 2016, 06:53 PM UTC

The load has been back at normal levels for the last 30 minutes. Will continuing to monitor over the next few days to see if further action is needed.

  4. postmortem Aug 02, 2018, 04:37 PM UTC

Yesterday there were two large spikes in traffic which affected performance and reliability of 'anchorhost4' (104.130.140.77). After reviewing it would appear the server was over capacity due to a large number of uncacheable requests directed to one of the installs. To prevent this from happening again I have moved the affected install over to a new hosting provider which is better configured to handle uncached requests.
